Longview is an independent organisation with charitable status run by a Board of Trustees.

Professor Michael Wadsworth

Michael is Chairman of the Trustees. He was the Director of the MRC National Survey for Health and Development (1946 Birth Cohort Study) from 1982 - 2006, University College London. He is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at UCL.

 

Professor Heather Joshi

Heather was Director of the UK Millennium Cohort Study, and was the Director of the Centre for Longitudinal Studies from 2003 to 2010, and its Deputy Director from 1994.  She is also the Co-Chair of the European Child Cohort Network fostering international collaboration and comparison between cohort studies. Heather is an economic demographer who has used a number of longitudinal datasets including the ONS LS. Her research has been mainly concerned with the family, the labour market, gender child development, but also includes spatial issues.

 

Professor Harvey Goldstein

Harvey is the Founder of the Multilevel Modelling Centre, now at the University of Bristol. He is a chartered statistician, has been editor of the Royal Statistical Society's Journal, Series A, a member of the Society's Council and was awarded the Society's Guy medal on silver in 1998. He was elected a member of the International Statistical Institute in 1987, and a fellow of the British Academy in 1996.  He was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Open University in 2001.

 

Dr Jude England

Jude is Head of Social Science Collections and Research at The British Library.

 

David Walker

David was formerly Managing Director, Communications and Public Reporting at the Audit Commission and is Chair of the Economic and Social Research Council's Methods and Infrastructure Committee.

 

Professor John Bynner

John was Director of Longview from 2005-2010. Before that he was Director of the Centre for Longitudinal Studies from 1998-2003, leading the Centre’s work on the National Child Development Study (NCDS) and the 1970 British Cohort study (BCS70).

Previous posts in the Institute of Education include Director of the Bedford Group for Lifecourse and Statistical Studies; Executive Director of the Centre for Research on the Wider Benefits of Learning, and first Director of the National Research and Development Centre for Adult Literacy and Numeracy (NRDC).

Tom Schuller is Director of Longview.

Tom was f ormerly Head of the Centre for Educational Research and Innovation at OECD;  Dean and Professor of Lifelong Learning at Birkbeck, University of London; and co-director (with John Bynner) of the Centre for Research in the Wider Benefits of Learning.  Visiting Professor at Birkbeck and at the Institute of Education, London.  His most recent publications are Learning Through Life: Inquiry into the Future of Lifelong Learning (with David Watson, NIACE 2009); and Understanding the Social Outcomes of Learning (with Richard Desjardins, OECD 2007).

Neville Butler

Neville Butler, founder sponsor of Longview and Director of  the International Centre for Child Studies (ICCS), died in February 2007.

A memorial fund in Neville's honour has been established and contributions may be sent to:
